    Who made your clothes?

    Who made your clothes?

It's Fashion Revolution week! This is a week to encourage transparency in the fashion industry, where brands show the people and conditions within their supply chain. In the hopes to encourage fair and safe working conditions, gender equality and environmental sustainability throughout the entire process of production.

You may recognise this movement from it's support via social media. Where various brands throughout the years have been posting photos of their production teams holding the sign 'I made your clothes'. This is an extremely important movement for the fashion industry, because we as consumers are starting to be really mindful about where our products are coming from. Whether it's unsafe environments, unethical treatment, gender inequality or environmentally damaging, we should all care about who and where we are buying our products from.

This week is a wonderful opportunity for people to support brands who make the expected effort to source from factories who have ethical values for their employees and care for their effect on the environment.

Here are some photos of the staff we work with from our suppliers. We spoke with  our treasured production manager Catherine about her role.

What is your name? Catherine Feng

What country do you live in? China

How has making these products and working in this factory benefited your life? Working in my factory, it is not only to support our own family , but also can help those new clients who start up their own brand in fitness wear line. And this fulfils my own personal values in this society, being responsible to my job and myself .

Mary and the loves in her life

Mary and the loves in her life

Ah love... What a beautiful, confusing, terrifying part of our human existence! Whether it's Valentines Day or not, everyone deserves to feel all the love they can in their life. There are definitely a few things everyone can do to inspire that deep, warm, feeling in your belly! So we sat down with the beautiful Mary Kant, who is not only an inspirational Yoga teacher and empowering social influencer, but is only weeks away from marrying the love of her life. We decided to pick her brain about all things love, considering the air is full of it this week!

What does ‘love’ mean to you?

This is what I wrote on my Instagram a while ago about love. What is love? Do you know what it is? The term 'love' is thrown around freely these days, used unsparingly to describe anything from breakfast to bathrooms. Undermining the magic and mystery of its true form and meaning. "I love Mangos, Justin Bieber or a Perfect Sunset." Is this 'love' the same as the 'love' you feel for your husband, daughter, sister, mother, lover, even your pet? I used to think I knew what love was. Just another emotion, something you feel for someone or something more than you would another. But is love really just an emotion? Or is it more than that? Love... It is imperfect, unique, fragile, unstructured, jealous, outspoken, unreligious, determined. It is the perfect creation of curiosity. I believe it is something mystifying and unexplained and felt with experiences. Felt with the moments that makes us question everything. It is knowing and unknown. It is how you see it, how you feel it, how you forget it. It is every spelling mistake. The lack of trust in your judgment. The way it can make you cry with sadness or cry with joy. The way it pushes you beyond all limits so it hurts you so much, but then you look at that person and see they are there for you. You grow more together so love can keep growing and changing. Love is constant. To love and be loved and be pushed to your very core that you know what the very meaning of this life is. Love. Love makes the world go around. Whether you love a mango or you love your husband, feel it more than an emotion. Feel it like it hurts but is pleasure all at once. Love is felt on a thousand levels. It is the future, the past and everything in between.

Do you have any mantras you try to incorporate into your relationships?

“Live with love, in love, through love, from love” and “Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Love never fails”

What do you love most about yourself?

I love that I’m tolerant, patient and that I have the ability to inspire and help people. I love that I can adapt to any situation and always try and look at the positives in every part of life.

What are you most excited about in taking this next step with Bowen?

That I finally get to call him my husband and we become a family. Marriage has always been so important to me and I’m excited to be able to marry my twin flame, love of my life and man of my dreams very soon!

Why PVC Yoga Mats are so harmful!

Why PVC Yoga Mats are so harmful!

All of our products are proudly 100% PVC free! But not many people understand just what that means for the environment, and for you.

Many cheap Yoga mats are made of Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or vinyl. It is one of the most environmentally hazardous consumer materials ever produced.

Not only is PVC catastrophic to the environment, but it is extremely dangerous to human health throughout its entire life cycle of production, use, and disposal. Mainly because roughly 30% of the worlds supply of chlorine is used in the making of it. Simply, PVC is the single worst plastic according to several health organisations. Greenpeace has been lobbying to stop the use of PVC because of the dioxin produced during its manufacture. It is toxic for humans, the environment and unfortunately many yoga mats are 100% PVC.

You would think PVC in itself would be the worst thing about cheaply made Yoga mats, but unfortunately that is just one aspect. PVC in its full form, is a hard plastic, so to soften this plastic and create flexibility in the Yoga Mat, chemicals like phthalates are added to the PVC.

Phthalates are linked to reproductive issues, including shorter pregnancy duration and premature breast development in girls. Over time these phthalates leach out, especially in warmer temperatures, like in hot Yoga studios. Phthalate particles then cling to dust, which can be inhaled.

PVC can't be recycled due to the toxins embedded within it, and when it's incinerated or buried in landfills it releases dioxin, a known carcinogen. There is no safe way to create, use or destroy these mats.

PVC became the plastic of choice because it's cheap, but when your putting a number on the effects it has on the environment and the harm it has on our health, a PVC FREE Yoga mat is priceless. So when your shopping for your next Yoga mat, ask yourself, what is this mat made of?

All Yogi Peace Club Yoga mats are 100% PVC FREE, made from natural tree rubber. With No phthalates or toxic chemicals. No Latex or Silicon or heavy metals such lead.

Brinkley Davies grew up surrounded by the water. At a young age she decided to be part of the ocean conservation movement. By using the social media platform she has been able to raise awareness and spread the word on many issues worldwide that are being battled by conservationists and scientists, in order to save the oceans, the planet, and thousands of species.
