YPC: Tell us a little bit about Whale Song Shack and where it is located.
WSS: Whale Song is an original Tassie shack built in the 1980s by a local fisherman, located in Falmouth on the east coast of Tasmania. Whale Song rests on the edge of the Tasman Sea, facing east overlooking a beautiful reef that is the foreground to the sunrise and moonrise, with the ocean as a constant forever in your view.
YPC: What inspired you to create the WSS?
WSS: For a very long time we had dreamed of owning a place in Falmouth, we’d been drawn to this beautiful hamlet, its quiet streets with no shops, the magical lagoon and east and north facing beach. When we had the incredible opportunity to buy our little shack it was our dream come true. We cerated Whale Song for our family, friends, artists and like minded souls to enjoy; sharing our place with those who relish in the sanctuary found in being close to nature, with a deep respect for the environment has been such a joy.
YPC: What makes your property so special?
WSS: I think the fact Whale Song is on the edge of the ocean is incredibly special, the graceful simplicity of our shack, and the connection to the outside through our beautiful fire pit that overlooks the Tasman Sea, our outdoor living and simple yet indulgent outdoor bath… the native garden that provides a private sanctuary where you feel there is no one but you, the ocean, the sun, the moon and the milky way… life slows down and the simple act of staring into the ocean watching for whales (which do pass by) is a meditation in itself… we invite guests to disconnect from the every day, our reception and wifi is patchy.. the elements of nature are easy to connect with here.. dawn is the most incredible experience.. I find I become an early riser when I am at Whale Song… and the evenings are intoxicating as the fires are lit, with the sound of the ocean filling your senses. When it is a full moon to witness the moonrise is to behold.
YPC: Describe the feeling you get when staying at WSS
WSS: I feel a deep sense of calm, at home and peaceful … I love the quiet when at Whale Song, the only sounds of the ocean and Pacific Gulls as they call on the reef below to distract me…
YPC: Where is your favourite place to practice yoga at WSS?
WSS: The lower deck overlooking the ocean is my favourite place to practice yoga… with the sun as it rises an anchor to my practice
YPC: We hear that you have had a few yogis stay, can you share their experience with us?
WSS: We have been very grateful to share Whale Song with some amazing yogis, Rhian and Shannon of @healthhunternaturaltherapies recently celebrated their wedding at Whale Song and started their stay with their beautiful yoga practice…Their wedding was the most beautiful experience, with the ceremony held on the shelly reef in front of Whale Song, with an intimate group of their dearest friends celebrated around the fire pit watching the ocean. Montana Lower @montanalower enjoyed a blissful escape at Whale song and experienced a beautiful sunrise yoga practice. Bec Willox also stayed and had the most incredible time…
YPC: You offer in house yoga at your property, who teaches this practice?
WSS: We are so lucky to have Kim Kerton of @goodsideofbed_ offer private yoga practice available upon request to book in as part of your Whale Song experience. it is such a special way to immerse into the beautiful energy of Whale Song.
YPC: When is your favourite time of the year to visit WSS and why?
WSS: I love summer as it is our families chance to be together at Whale Song, it is deliciously hot and as family summer holidays often are times for connection. Autumn is divine, there is a beautiful calm to the ocean, the water is warm and the light is beautiful, there is a coolness in the air and sitting by the fire rugged up overlooking the ocean is heavenly.
