Why We Need a Fashion Revolution

Why We Need a Fashion Revolution - Yogi Peace Club

Fashion Revolution Week is an annual event that commemorates the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh, almost a decade ago on April 24th 2013. This preventable tragedy killed and injured thousands of garment workers, mostly young women and remains one of the world's worst industrial accidents.

Yogi Peace Club supports Fashion Revolution

This week Yogi Peace Club joins the Fashion Revolution movement, to raise awareness around the social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry and to encourage people to demand greater transparency and sustainability in the way clothes and products are made. We seek to empower consumers to become more conscious of their purchasing habits.

Fashion Revolution Week is important to us for several reasons. Firstly, it draws attention to the human and environmental impact of the fast fashion industry. Fast fashion is a term used to describe the practice of producing and selling cheap, trendy clothing and product at a rapid pace. This model has resulted in exploitative working conditions for product workers, environmental damage, and a throwaway culture of overconsumption. At Yogi Peace Club, we are not mass produced. We are slow made in small quantities.

Secondly, Fashion Revolution Week highlights that consumers often have little information about where and how their clothes are made. This lack of transparency can lead to unethical practices. Fashion Revolution Week encourages fashion brands to be more open about their supply chains and manufacturing processes taking responsibility for the impact their products have on people and the planet.

Yogi Peace Club works with ethically accredited factories in China and Australia to produce our Yoga garments. Our cotton is certified organically sourced and Ethically made from 100% WRAP Certified, Better Cotton Initiative Cotton.

Thirdly, Fashion Revolution Week empowers consumers to make more informed and responsible purchasing decisions. By promoting the message of "Who made my clothes?", the week encourages consumers to consider the people behind their clothing and to choose brands that prioritise sustainability and ethics.

We express sincere gratitude to our garment makers for bringing our YPC collections to life. We see you. We honour you. We thank you.
