Allira Potter, An Inspirational Yogi Leading The Way For Change
In celebration of International Women’s Day, we had the honour of speaking with healer, creator & body positive model leading the way for change, Allira Potter. We spoke to Allira about all things yoga, what she would tell her younger self, what it means to be a women.
Allira constantly inspires the YPC team as she is leading the way to for change and sharing her journey to body positivity. We wanted to chat with Allira to share her story to encourage all yogis to embrace themselves and feel inspired to make change and share their voice.
Which female has been the most inspirational person in your life?
The most inspirational person in my life is my mum although she has passed she is always going to be an endless inspiration for me to just be the best version of myself.
What is your favourite yoga pose?
Does Savasana count? I am one of those people that loove that end of a yoga session, being in absolute bliss.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
100% Bali! Otherwise somewhere like Northern NSW.
What are you reading currently?
I’m currently reading a book by AFL footballer Bachar Houli. He is a man who is of muslim religion & he talks about his life, his upbringing and then coming and playing AFL. It is honestly one of the most inspirational books that I have read in a very long time.
Who, or what, was your biggest teacher?
Definitely my mum, she always gave me the best advice and best lessons that made me realise I had to grow up being a really kind human being no matter someones background or where they are from.
Where is your happy place?
Pt Addis, its just down the road and is my absolute happiest place ever.
Are you more yin or yang?
I feel like I go between the both, I am more yang during the day and yin at night. Probably at the moment I am very much Yang because I am just go, go, go at the moment.
What advice would you give to yourself if you were still a teenager?
I would tell my younger self to chill out, don’t worry about trying to grow up and be this adult. You just need to chill out and be a teenager, have some fun and listen to your mother more!
What is your favourite thing about being a woman?
My favourite thing about being a women is everything. I feel as though I am in a really beautiful unique position not only being a women, but being a women of colour as well. I’m wanting to change the narrative of absolutely everything and i think being a women puts me in this really powerful position to be a game changer. So I love being a women.
How long have you practiced yoga for?
I have been practicing yoga for about 2 years now. I think because I am a curvier women it took me a lot to work up the confidence to be able to do it and now I cant get enough of it!
What is your proudest accomplishment?
I feel like it’s never ending for me, i think everything that I am doing at the moment is something that I am so proud of. I am breaking all these cycles of being an aboriginal women so I think everything that I am doing at the moment is something I am so proud of.
