What to expect from your yoga mat

OUR YOGA MAT GRIP GUIDE
UNDERSTANDING NON-SLIP TECHNOLOGY IN OUR YOGA MATS

One of the most common questions we receive is about the non-slip properties of our yoga mats. As practitioners ourselves, we understand how critical grip and stability are to your practice. This guide explains exactly how our yoga mats provide superior grip and what you need to know to get the best performance from each style.

TWO DISTINCT YOGA MAT TECHNOLOGIES

We offer two different mat constructions, both of which have a non-slip natural rubber base, which keeps the mat from sipping on the ground ensuring it lays flat. We use a natural rubber base on all of our yoga mats, for it's density and stability, compared to cheaper foam yoga mats that deflate and become unstable. Our top surfaces however, vary, and are engineered for specific practice styles and grip mechanisms. Understanding how each works will help you choose the right mat and use it effectively.

MICROFIBRE TOP YOGA MATS

Our microfibre top mats feature a unique grip technology that actually increases with moisture. Here's how they work. The top layer is constructed from microfibre suede - a material with thousands of tiny fibres that create surface texture. When dry, these fibres lie relatively flat. As moisture is introduced (through sweat or water), the fibres activate and create enhanced traction. This is why these mats become grippier as your practice intensifies.

IDEAL PRACTICE STYLES

Hot Yoga
The moisture-activated grip makes these mats exceptional for Bikram, hot vinyasa, or any heated practice where you'll build up significant sweat

Yin Yoga
The soft, cushioned microfibre surface provides comfort for long-held floor poses while maintaining stability

Restorative Practices
The plush feel supports relaxation without sacrificing grip

BREAKING IN YOUR MICROFIBRE TOP YOGA MAT

It's completely normal for your microfibre mat to feel a little slippery during the first few uses, particularly in poses like downward-facing dog where your hands and feet bear weight. This is because the fibres haven't been fully activated yet. Here's what to expect:

Initial Use
The mat needs to be "worn in" as the microfibre layer adjusts to use and moisture exposure. Each practice will improve the grip.

For Gentle or Dry Practices
If you're practicing gentle yoga, yin, or restorative styles where you won't build up much sweat, we recommend lightly sprinkling a few drops of water on the areas where your hands and feet will be placed. This activates the grip mechanism without requiring perspiration. You only need minimal moisture, a light misting is sufficient.

Downward Dog Tip
This pose often reveals any slippage issues because of the angle and pressure distribution. If you experience sliding in down dog during your first sessions, try the water-sprinkling technique, activate your hands and feet or give the mat a few more practices to break in fully.

SUSTAINABILITY FEATURES

The microfibre suede layer is crafted from recycled PET, giving new life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfill. These mats are also free from PVC, phthalates, and other harmful toxins, making them safe for you and better for the environment.
